You Me At Six – Night People
Release Date: 6th January 2017
As we near the end of 2017, we take a look back on some of the biggest albums released throughout the year.
You Me At Six, a rock group originating from a little town in Surrey, released their fifth album at the beginning of the year.
We start the album with Night People, a fairly heavy song with a catchy beat and an appealing chorus, showing us this album will be somewhat different from their past ones. Track 2 takes us to Plus One, a tune complete with a mix of strong lead and backing vocals, with an instrumental intro creating an intense opening. The third track, Heavy Soul, exhibiting a softer beat but without the loss of frontman Josh Franchesci’s powerful vocals.
The album’s fourth track is Take On The World, a much slower and calmer song, a twist from the rest of the album and undoubtedly the most emotional, instrumentally and lyrically. Track 5, Brand New follows with a more upbeat tune and a sing-a-long chorus. Swear brings us a nice drum intro, leading into a continuous beat complete with yet more fierce vocals.
Make Your Move, Track 7, leads us in with a guitar intro and a dramatic feel with the change in vocal pitch and added backing vocals throughout. The eighth track, Can’t Hold Back begins with another instrumental intro and a pleasant bass undertone. Track 9, Spell It Out, features a softer opening and a gripping effect, also bringing in some heavier instrumentals past the midway point of the song.
We reach an end with the tenth track, Give, featuring a compelling and captivating chorus, and complete with a range of different instruments, to create the perfect album closer.
To sum up, this is a fantastic album and one of the best released by You Me At Six to date. With vigorous vocals and an effective use of instruments, this is a creative and masterful album, showing differences and variations from some of their earlier albums. We look forward to hearing more from You Me At Six in the future.
